Medical errors can occur in any health care setting: hospitals, physician offices, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities. They can range from no risk/harm to a patient to a medical error that causes the death of a patient. Most often, when thinking about medical errors, health care professionals generally refer to wrong-site surgeries, medication errors and falls. Medical errors, however, also include poor care planning, criminal activities, environmental hazards and poor discharge planning.

This class will.prepare OTs and OTAs to prevent medical errors in any practice setting using current, evidence based information. This course will examine the various types of medical errors, ways to avoid medical errors and case studies to apply what is learned.
